Certainly impressive, though I'm sure beating Cardiff City was more of an achievement than beating a team at the bottom end of the WPL even with 9 men

Mark, are you confident of beating the exiles tonight? I'll certainly be hoping for a Bangor victory _________________ Come on the Crows!

Not the best ever but 10 man Newport YM beating Carmarthen wasn't too shabby a result either.

Newport lost AT HOME to TNS. Had to go to extra-time at Druids and at home to Port Talbot. Beat Caersws 1-0 at home the year before, lost to Caernarfon the year before that.
I'd say Bangor can be a little confident.

My main reason for hoping Bangor win is because Newport are our local rivals (geographically speaking that is, not in terms of leagues!).
It's the same when someone's playing Croesyceiliog or Cwmbrân Celtic
But yes, Newport County are a very organised outfit off and on the pitch. I'll look forward to watching the highlights tonight @ 22.00.

I would say Bangor can be a little confident, but on the same not I would say you grossly underestimate Newport County and are incredibly mis informed if you base them off of what you just rattled off. I've been a Carmarthen supporter for donkeys years but have lived in Newport more recently and seen them play, and quite frankly they have lost a tiny proportion of games in the premier cup. Some of the wins have been close but a side that wins a lot of close matches is a side that has won a lot of matches. Fact is Newport have lost to 4 sides at Newport in the whole of 2007 thus far, and if you'd have seen them in the wider scope their loss to TNS and win against Port Talbot were during a period where even in the league their form had dropped right off. Prior to losing 1-0 to the WP champions they had been hammered twice in the league within a week.
Point is pety us vs exiles trivia shoudln't cloud that they are a very good side who while winning games close, do win an awful lot of games.
EDIT: Newport 1-0 Bangor, Griffin 90 (Their Conference south site was doing updates, which is quite nice since in all probability the other clubs using that site weren't interested.) Hard luck but as I said given the number of sides to have come away from Newport with nowt there is certainly no shame in that result.

Just watched the highlights, and Newport deserved their win, no doubt. Fair play.
Port's Tony Pennock has quit as manager!! Are the Port fans disappointed? Or happy to see him go?
Rhys Griffiths for Wales anyone? Cotterill, Earnshaw, Easter, and Eastwood are not playing regularly fortheir clubs... _________________ Come on the Crows!

Not sure you can step up from playing Cefn Druids one weekend to Germany the next but I'm amazed he hasn't attracted attention from League clubs.
He's improved in leaps and bounds over the past 3 seasons, his 1st touch and hold up play are very good and he hardly seems to miss when he gets an oppertunity, certainly not against Rhyl

When Newport beat us we had just been knocked out of the cup by the Lido and our confidence was rock bottom. Our squad (which is much, much smaller than Newports) was badly hit by injuries. So other than just say Newport were struggling at the time you need to look at the bigger picture.
I don't really subscribe to this WPL/Exile thing much and believe Newport ARE a good team and so they should be as they are a big, well run club with a tidy sized budget. They hit the woodwork numerous times last night and did so against us last season. They have struggled when travelling to WPL teams though and I'm sure the result would have been different if they had to travel to Farrar Rd last night.
CC, I don't think there will be any tears over Tony's departure and I think he was just out of his depth.
Do goalkeepers ever make good managers??????
