Top five clubs Prestatyn Town, Bala Town, Llandudno Town, Flint Town United and Gap Queens Park have all applied for elevation to the top flight, as well as eighth-placed Holyhead Hotspur and struggling Penrhyncoch. New boys Denbigh Town have also applied.

League secretary John Deakin said: “It’s pleasing to see so many clubs are keen to get into the league from the North. We’re just awaiting nominations from the South now, and then we’ll be visiting all the clubs in January. We need to sort out the facilities in the league,” he added. “There’s got to be some sort of investment in the facilities because of the European situation – if there’s no investment it’s going to compromise our clubs’ position in Europe, so as far as I’m concerned that’s something we really need to address.”

I have feeling only one team will go up, cos no bugger can/wants to up from the south it seems (apart from us, and we're struggling Crying or Very sad )

what seems to be the problem with teams down south not wanting promotion,no one seems to want to take the step up is it financial or the extra travelling expense etc

It's a mixture. Looking at the current table, from what i can tell:

Ton Pentre - money is the issue, and they would have to fork out a lot of £ to bring Ynys Park up to scratch. They're a strong fish in a competitive pool i guess.

Goytre United - no floodlights. And their manager resigned (and is now at Lido) cos he knew the board didn't want to go up.

Dinas Powys - not sure about them.

Bryntirion Athletic - were in county league football four years ago. Stadium not up to scratch.

Cambrian & Clydach - same story as Bryntirion.

Us - we'll go back up thank you very much Cool

Aberaman Athletic - they've got the dosh in relative abundance. Ground needs a lot of work. They only have 40 seats and have no floodlights.

The Welsh League is bringing in new ground criteria in 2009 which requires floodlights i think. This will help clubs prepare, but unlike in north, ground criteria covers division 1 to 3. The Cymru Alliance is only one division... You could almost say we need a Cymru Alliance South down here to aid with the step up...

Its good to see Denbigh Town's ambition in applying for promotion, but we'd have to do loads of work to the ground to get it up to the required standard.

Why do south Wales clubs lack ambition compared to clubs in the north? You would have thought it would be the other way around taking into account the difference in population. Rolling Eyes

i think down south rugby is tops, you think that the rugby and football clubs could get together and have a ground they could share etc
